Tuber Aestivum Vitt.

Harvest period: from May 15th to August 31st

The summer truffle, known as “Scorzone“, is similar to the black hooked truffle and is one of the least valuable species of its genus.

The peridium is black in color with a very rough rind. The gleba has a yellow-ocher or hazelnut hue. However, it has an intense odor even if less than the winter one. The taste is very pleasant, similar to that of porcini. They come in many sizes, from the smallest of the size of a walnut to specimens weighing more than one kg.

The scorzone truffle grows on a large amount of land in association with broad-leaved trees, such as oak, downy oak and turkey oak. It can be found in woods up to about 1000 meters above sea level.
